About me
Hi, I'm James, your next film photographer
I've always been the one to slow my friends down as they're walking about town and I'm taking photos. While they may complain about it in the moment, they tend to have a knack of coming back to me after and asking if I have any photos of them from our particular trip. To then rub dirt into my wounds, they would (so rudely) post them without even so much as a tag!
I then got into sports photography, mainly photographing the sports teams around the University of York (notably Hockey, MTB, and Football). This then spiralled, perhaps taking more time away from my degree than it ought've, and I became head photographer Nouse at Roses 2025, the largest inter-university sports competition throughout Europe. I was also graciously allowed to photograph a York City Ladies' FC match against Leeds, and invited to shoot for the professional basketball team Jorvik Warriors.
Yet all of this happened before I'd even touched a film camera. I was given a Ricoh KR-10 by a regular at my place of work who said he had no need for it; it had been sat in his cupboard for close to 30 years. I took it with me on a day trip to Manchester, and from that first wind of film and click of the shutter I was hooked.
I've been shooting film for a two years now. Still mainly shooting university sports, but this is my bid to change that. I started Afterlight Film as a way to turn what I love doing into a career. May as well give it a shot. Let's capture some moments together.

How soon will you get your film scans?
The developers I work with (Not Quite North) tend to return my photos to me within a day or two, with three days being the maximum. Presuming I send my exposed film via Tracked 24 the same day as the event (which I always aim to do), you'll have your scans between 1-4 days after your event takes place.
